Reviews: Skinwalkers lacks bite

The werewolf movie "Skinwalkers" took a small bite of only $753,520 in receipts at 745 theaters in its opening weekend in the US. It's pretty much a flop and reviews have been negative.

The thriller about a 12-year-old boy who finds himself at the center of a battle between two warring groups of werewolves (good vs evil) on the eve of his 13th birthday when he's gonna fulfill some prophesy. Apparently, the kid is a skinwalker progeny after his mum (Rhona Mitra) mated with a werewolf and didn't know it. O-kay.

Directed by James Isaac, the film had low expectations to begin with, having been delayed in its release for a year while they ripped the R guts out of it to water it down to a candy ass curse of PG13. Then just as it was about to be released on July 27, and after a solid week of expensive TV, internet and print advertising, the producers got cold feet and delayed it two weeks, thereby killing off its audience before it even hit the screens. Brilliant marketing plan, that.

It's not the best Werewolf horror film ever made but certainly not the worst, and it stars Rhona, Elias Koteas and Jason Behr - three reasons right there to watch. I rather enjoyed it, but then I'm not some stuffy movie critic who compares everything to "Citizen Kane" (which I hated) and dismisses the entire monster film genre as ridiculous. My movie motto is: if it entertains me, it works.

Own a copy of Skinwalkers, just don't expect Shakespeare and enjoy it as absurd fun. And Rhona's in it -- a lot!!

In addition to Rhona, Natassia Malthe (below - right) was the other eye candy of the movie. Best abs on a woman you will ever see.
